Early morning transfer to the domestic airport for your flight to Leh - try and grab a window seat to get the amazing views of the snow capped Himalay as you fly overhead.
On arrival into Leh you'll be met by your driver and transferred to Stok where you'll spend 3 nights at the Village House while you acclimatise to the altitude. Rest of today at leisure. (Full Board)
Today have a gentle introduction to the area with a visit to nearby Stok Palace and museum. The palace was traditionally the summer palace of the Ladakh Royal Family. These days the palace is the residential home of the present royal family, who have a wing of the buildign to themselves. (Full Board)
Thsi morning rise early and travel to Thiksey Monastery in time to attend the morning puja, which sees all the resident monks perform prayers and chants accompanies by Tibetan horns and large drums. The younger members of the monastery prepare and serve all the monks with their morning butter tea. Continue to Sakti for your breakfast picnic followed by a visit to Hemis Gompa. On your way back to Stok visit Leh Palace and bazaar. (Full Board)
This morning drive to Karu and then raft down stream for two hours to Choglomsar. The river here is relatively calm so cannot be called white water rafting! On arrival drive to the next village you'll be staying at, Taru, en route stopping off to see the monastery at Phyang. Stay 1 night at Taru Village House (Full Board)
Thsi morning drive to Umla where you will start your walk to the village of Nimoo. The walk takes around 2-3 hours and the terrain is easy going. Nimoo is a large village which sits at the confluence of the Indus and Zanskar Rivers and is considered exceptionally fertile by Ladakhi standards, with orchards aplenty. Stay 3 nights at the Nimoo Village House (Full Board)
Your guide for your pre-breakfast morning walk is the owner of the village house and also the head of the village. He will give you a fascinating insight into Ladaki village life and as he is a master or archery he'll give you a go at this number one Ladaki sportign pastime. After breakfast drive to entrance to the Zanskar Valley to Chilling and then rsft back to Nimoo - the river here has some grade 4 rapids. On your return you can take part in a cookery lesson. Today you can either take it easy in the village, or do a short village walk. For those with more energy to burn we suggest a river rafting excursion to Alchi, the only monastery in Ladakh built on flat ground and which is particularly interesting due to its Kashmiri influence. After an early breakfast drive for 6 hours over the Chang La Pass (5300 meters) and on to Pangong Lake. Stop here for lunch. Continue on to Shayok where you'll stay at the Shakti River Camp, located in the valley between the Karakoram and Ladakh ranges. The accommodation on the river rafting extension is quite basic however you can be guaranteed that Shakti's high standards of service and cuisine is maintained throughout this part of the holiday. Overnight at the Shayok River Camp in dome tents with inflatable mattresses, duvets, pillows, sheets and blankets. There will be two communal western style toilets and two shower tents. (Full Board)
This morning board your raft, Today's journey takes you through incredible scenry of high altitude desert, snow-capped peaks and dramatic rock formations. Overnight camp in Deskit, in the heart of the Nubra Valley. Deskit is famous for its sand dunes and Bactrian camels. A camel ride on the dunes can be arranged. Overnight Nubra River Camp (Full Board)
After breakfast there is the option for more rafting to Hundar followed by a drive to visit Diskit monastery, otherwise you can do the journey by car. After lunch continue by road back to the Village House in Nimoo. Overnight (Full Board)
This morning transfer to Leh Airport for your early morning flight back to Delhi. On arrival transfer to the Trident Gurgaon for your final night in India. (Breakfast)
After breakfast your driver will collect you from the hotel and transfer you the short distance to the international airport to check in for your flight home.
The "Queen of Hill Stations", as it was nicknamed by the British, is situated in the north-West Himalaya and was the summer capital of India before Independence. Now the capital of Himachal Pradesh it derives its name from "Shyamala" - the goddess Kali, whose temple existed in the dense forest that covered Jakhu Hill in the early 19th Century. The English renamed it Shimla. Covering an area of 18 sq km at a height of 7,238 ft and surrounded by pine, deodar, oak and rhododendron forests, its well developed facilities, easy accessibility and numerous attractions make it one of India's most popular and largest hill stations.
