This remote and dramatic region of India is distinctive in its moon-like high altitude desert landscapes. Leh and the surrounding countryside are dotted with dozens of Buddhist monasteries perched precarious-like on mountain ridges and despite the sometimes weather beaten environment the Ladakhi people are possibly the warmest in their welcome anywhere in India.
