Tamarind Hill is the latest property from the Sri Lankan designer Taru to open its doors as a luxury boutique hotel experience. Tamarind Hill is a beautiful manor house on the outskirts of Galle which means it's equally convenient for the sunswept beaches of the south coast and the stylish shopping and dinning oportunities in the Fort. Built in the 1800s and occupied over the years by a British Admiral and High Court Judge of the colonial era it combines the architecture and essence of a bygone era with a clever blend of modern amenities. Tamarind's executive chef Silvestre is a master at Sri Lankan and Thai cuisine. The menu lists delicious offerings made from local ingredients that include plenty of fresh fish and seafood. His authentic village-style rice and curry - comprising nine accompaniments that include little-known vegetables such as lotus root, dambula and drumsticks - has been praised by past guests as the best in the south.
Tamarind Hill - with its differing standards of accommodation - is an especially good choice for couples looking for an intimate setting within easy reach of Galle.
