In Bandhavgarh National Park we recommend 2 very unique properties - Jungle Mantra is a delightful property - all structures are bamboo and log constructions which quietly blend into the surrounding woodland. An active policy of reforestation within the grounds of the lodge means once over-farmed land is now back to its natural state. Community projects include health and educational developments for staff and villagers.
On the quieter edge of Kanha National Park you'll come across Shergarh a collection of 9 luxury tents and has a keen sense of responsibility towards the surrounding social and ecological surroundings. Jehan is particularly keen to introduce guests to village life and encourages guests to go walking and bicycling in the area and he has pinpointed various routes for both activities which take guests through beautiful, unspoilt villages giving one an insight into the area and how it works. Much of the land where the camp is based has also been left to revert to natural jungle, and this encourages wild animals to wander through the grounds.
Finally in Ranthambore Goverdhan and Usha, the owners of Khem Villas have converted their land into a wilderness area planting indigenous trees and creating open grasslands and small water bodies, spread over an area of 10 acres it has become a habitat in itself. It is common to see jackals, jungle cats, hyenas, desert fox, hares etc. within the camp grasslands. Goverdhan has dedicated the last 20 years of his life to the conservation of tigers and working with the local people helping them find alternative means of livelihood so that they can be less dependant on their natural resources like fuel wood and fodder the extraction of which forms a major threat to the future of the Tiger.
