Sri Lanka Trekking

The Hill Country of Sri Lanka offers the walking enthusiast some richly rewarding countryside to explore. Keen walkers should not miss the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of centuries of pilgrims who have climbed to the top of Adam's Peak, a sacred site for Buddhists and Hindus alike. The 5000+ steps leading to the top of the mountain should be climbed in darkness, as the aim is to reach the summit in time for sunrise. The main pilgrimage season is between December and May, and during this time you'll be accompanies by thousands of worshipers. The Hill Country is exceptionally beautiful, with crystal clear waterfalls and tea plantations dotted throughout. The temperature in this region stays cool all year round, in an atmosphere of early morning Spring. Everything is green and lush and the landscape is elevated with layers of grass knolls and jagged waterfalls with dense mountain forest clinging to the upper slopes. Horton Plains is a National Park and is the highest plateau on the island. Walk amongst vibrant rhododendron and giant tree ferns - a two hour walk will bring you to World's End, a spectacular escarpment with a 1000 meter drop.
