Often overlooked for its rich wildlife, Sri Lanka has a wealth of nature reserves which can be easily accessed by jeep and offer a host of rewarding animal and birdlife encounters. The very first nature reserve on the island was founded in the 3rd Century BC and Mihintale and the tradition of protecting its wildlife continues to this day.
